How to write a Veo prompt
Six parts, one sentence each. That is all a good video prompt needs.
| Part | What to write | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Subject | Who or what is on screen | A woman in a yellow raincoat |
| 2. Action | What they do, in one verb phrase | walks slowly toward the camera |
| 3. Setting | Where and when | on a narrow street at night |
| 4. Camera | Shot size and movement | slow dolly back at eye level |
| 5. Light | Light source, color and mood | soft pink and blue neon light |
| 6. Sound | What you should hear | rain on pavement, distant traffic |
Fill-in template
[Subject] [action] [setting]. [Shot size], [camera movement]. [Light and color]. Sound of [sound].
Tips
- One shot per prompt. Describe a single continuous shot, not a sequence of scenes.
- Name the camera move. Words like dolly, pan, tilt, static, handheld and drone change the result a lot.
- Be specific about light. "Golden hour from the left" works better than "nice lighting".
- Keep it short. Two to four sentences is usually enough. Extra words can confuse the model.
- Change one thing at a time. When a result is close, edit only one part and generate again.
